Summary:
These are medium-sized starships of the mid-24th century. They are used as explorative and science vessels. Apollo-class ships have been in service ever since. The class name comes from Greek mythology and the 20th century Earth space program which brought Humans to Luna (the Moon.) The above image is what the Apollo-class may look like. It is obviously Vulcan in design, however they are part of the Federation and therefore their ships are considered Federation vessels. Starfleet must of given the design its own designation and commissioned their ships for it. The Apollo class is a quite unconventional design for a Federation ship. Nevertheless, there are Starfleet ships as well as Vulcan ships (with NSP registries) of this class. The design mainly consists of an angular hull and a ring around the hull, where probably the warp drive is located. The ship design is relatively old.
